Week 7

October 13-17

Reminder: Send an email here: WuDaEnglish@gmail.com, so that you get the documents needed for various assignments during the semester.

Homework for Week 7:
In class you should have been assigned a group (if you are presenting next week; if not, you will be given a group later in the term for a different presentation). Your group should also have been assigned a letter, (A, B, C, D) that corresponds to the list below:

Group A - Iraq, Afghanistan, G.I Expansion Bill, immigration
Group B - mortgage crisis, taxes, health care, S-CHIP
Group C - education, social security, abortion, death penalty
Group D - energy, gun control, climate change

Your group will have 5-7 minutes to present on the topics corresponding to your group letter. DO NOT SIMPLY COPY FROM WEBSITES! THIS SHOULD BE AN INFORMATIVE AND INTERESTING PRESENTATION! In your presentation you will:

- Give the stance for BOTH Obama and McCain on the topics for your group. You may want to include things like quotations from their campaign websites, speeches, papers, past legislation, etc.

- You are welcome to use any type of visual aids to enhance your presentation.

- Try to make it interesting! :)

Here are two websites that will be helpful in your information gathering. Remember, DON'T COPY THEM!

A good site with basic info. (not enough for the presentation!) - http://minnesota.publicradio.org/projects/ongoing/select_a_candidate/president.shtml

This site gets a little deeper on some of the top issues people will be thinking about: - http://uspolitics.america.gov/uspolitics/elections/issues.html

This site has information on a very wide variety of topics. You should find a few good quotations by each candidate on the many article links available. Make good use of this site! You can select the topic listed alphabetically by title - http://www.realclearpolitics.com/topic/

FOR THE PEOPLE NOT PRESENTING: You should make yourself familiar with the candidates and the issues surrounding the upcoming election. Ignorance is not an excuse!

Here's a fun video on how a Bill becomes a Law. Enjoy!
